Another residency-by-investment programme is the Malta Permanent Residence Programme (MPRP). This programme allows third-country nationals to obtain permanent residency in Malta, also based on investments in property and government contributions.
The MPRP offers many benefits to its beneficiaries, including the right to settle in Malta, stay and reside permanently in Malta, visa-free travel across Schengen for 90 out of 180 days, and the ability to penetrate Malta’s affordable real estate market.
Who is eligible for the MPRP? Third country nationals, non-EU, non-EEA, and non-Swiss. Additionally, applicants may include up to four generations in an application.
Very similarly to the Maltese Citizenship by Naturalisation for Exceptional Services by Direct Investment, Investors who obtain permanent residency in Malta via the MPRP programme enjoy many perks. These include living in the country and visiting the Schengen Area for 90 days within 180 days, the possibility to register a company in Malta, or find a job, as well as becoming a tax resident of the country. The permanent residence card for adult applicants is valid for five years, and a minor applicant renews the card a month after turning 14 or 18 years old.
